Skeptical Seekers is for individuals interested in pursuing the gifts of mind-expanding practices without the context of mysticism, religion, and fantasy that pervades many personal development and psychedelic communities and practices.

There is something inherently spiritual about the insights and perspective offered by psychedelics and other forms of personal development.

Many psychonauts develop a profound sense of connectedness to the universe and see their relationship to all existence in a new way. It is common to wrap those experiences up into some theory, dogma, story, or metaphor and there are countless communities to join to dive deeper into astrology, reincarnation, alternate universes, etc, but this community is for those who wish to stay grounded in sensate reality and present experience, embracing the mystery of the unknown.

This is a space to share events, retreats and resources that help explore our understanding of psychedelics, science, biology, neuroscience, and chemistry, and leave explorations of theology, spirits, mythology and alchemy to others.

Founding Principles:

Skeptical Seekers is founded on the belief that the pursuit of truth and understanding is most powerful when undertaken with an acceptance of the many mysteries of existence as being unknowable (see this quote from Einstein).
As such, our founding principles are not “universal truths”, but foundations for building a community with shared values.
  • Hello Again:
  • This first principle is experiential and cannot be explained with concepts and words, so we will not try. The closest we can come is “Hello Again”
  • Maximize Joy:
  • Life is empty and meaningless. We all get to decide our own meaning, and a primary meaning for the skeptical seeker is to live our lives in a way that maximizes joy and minimizes suffering for every entity that will ever be able to experience joy and suffering.
  • Self Aware Stardust:
  • As Carl Sagan said, “we are a way for the cosmos to know itself”. This is one of the only truths worth grokking. To imagine that stardust exploded into space and mixed and remixed in nearly-infinite ways until one day it became as beautiful as the worlds we see today, spawning further extensions with the ability to trace their own path back to the big bang is simply mind-blowing.
  • Freedom*:
  • Freedom (with an asterisk) refers to the idea that the only limitations on individual freedom should result from inevitable natural necessities and the equal freedom of others. As stated in Article 4 of the French Declaration of Rights: Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else; hence the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits except those which assure to the other members of the society the enjoyment of the same rights
